Phil Air’s 1933 Ford Coupe

Phil Air, of South Australia, owned and raced this 1933 Ford Coupe, frequently at Adelaide International Raceway.

The ’33 Coupe body appears stock, with bobbed rear fenders and front cycle guards, though it had been fitted with a ’32 grille.

It features additional headlights and large indicator lights, as well as a drilled front axle and split chromed wishbones. A rear nerf bar was fitted with tail lights mounted in the corners.

It was powered by a Ford Y-block most notably equipped with a split exhaust system – full length twin pipes presumably for street driving, and sill-length side pipes for racing.

Phil was a semi-regular attendee of racing events at Adelaide International Raceway as well as other street meets in the 1970s.

The car dipped into the 13-second zone before then being sold to fund Phil’s next hot rod. [1]
