A trip to Cooma in 1966

“Scrounging trips were a regular of the Sixties. Every long weekend we were off somewhere looking for the ever-diminishing supply of old Fords.

We found plenty of junk like Chevs and Vauxhalls, but only Fords would satisfy then.

On this trip we went to Cooma and slept the night in the back of the Model A Touring by the creek. Minus 7 degrees, we froze. Ken and Denis O’Reagan, Ken Johnson and myself, we were all about 19 then in 1966.

All we found was this rusted Model T grille.

Original early Model A’s – a Sports Coupe and a Touring. ’39 Ford hydraulic brakes on the Sports Coupe and original mechanical brakes on the Touring.

A hairy, scary trip when you look back on it.”
